/proc directory

/proc directory holds all the details about your Linux system, including its kernel, processes, and configuration parameters.
Under Linux, everything is managed as a file; even devices are accessed as files.The /proc directory using virtual files.Most virtual files always have a current timestamp, which indicates that they are constantly being kept up to date.

The /proc directory is organized in virtual directories and subdirectories, and it groups files by similar topic.

$ sudo ls /proc

/proc/version - Kernel
/proc/meminfo - Memory
/proc/apm - Advanced Power Management
/proc/acpi - Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
/proc/loadavg - Average load on the processor
/proc/stat - Last boot statistics
/proc/uptime - How many seconds up, idle.
/proc/devices - All currently configured and loaded character and block devices.
/proc/ioports - I/O
/proc/dma - Direct Memory Access channels
/proc/filesystem - Show filesystem types are supported by kernel
/proc/mounts - Current mount info
/proc/partitions - Partition
/proc/swaps - Swap
/proc/fs - NFS /proc/fs/nfsd/exports
/proc/net - Network info
/proc/cmdline - Parameters passed to the kernel at boot time.
